The exact tools, platforms, and books Oliver uses and recommends.

Brokerages & Charting

ThinkorSwim — Oliver’s main charting platform. A little outdated and lacks some features. If starting from scratch he wouldn’t pick it, but he’s so familiar with it he hasn’t switched. The platform doesn’t matter that much as long as you’re comfortable with it.
Interactive Brokers — The brokerage Oliver executes through. In his opinion, the best platform available for serious traders. He tried using their charting as a replacement for ThinkorSwim but found it difficult, so they’re strictly his broker.
TC2000 — If Oliver were starting from scratch today, this is what he’d use for charting. Worth a look if you’re picking your first platform. TC2000 integrates with Interactive Brokers — the best option in Oliver’s eyes is to use TC2000 for charting and Interactive Brokers for execution.
TradingView — Oliver’s back-up charting platform. Clean interface, fast scans, easy to annotate watchlists. Get a discount with the link. People have built layouts to mimic MarketSmith, DeepVue, etc. Many traders prefer it as their main charting package.
Robinhood — A modern, user-friendly platform that beginners often find easier. Oliver doesn’t use Robinhood personally.

Research, Scanning & Tools

TraderSync — Trade journaling and analytics platform. Track your trades, identify patterns in your performance, and improve over time. Essential if you’re serious about getting better.
DeepVue — Modern scanning platform that also pulls earnings and sales data. A solid replacement if you don’t have access to MarketSmith.
MarketSmith — What Oliver uses for earnings and sales data. No affiliate program, but worth mentioning because it’s part of the workflow.
Finviz Elite — Used for pre-set stock scanning, market maps, intra-day breadth reading, and saved portfolios. The free tool covers most features; Elite adds real-time data and other niceties.
EarningsWhispers — Earnings calendar and estimates. Simple, fast, and accurate. A staple in the workflow.
AI Tools — Oliver uses Claude for in-depth review of specific earnings reports, asking things like “Summarize the ABC earnings report” or “How does ABC stock win?” The goal is to really understand the earnings on stocks being traded — Claude does a great job of that. It’s also useful for understanding the positive and negative drivers behind a stock and getting a slightly-more-than-high-level sense of what a company does and where it fits in the marketplace. Oliver uses ChatGPT for more basic questions like “What are the top holdings in IGV?” or for a historical look at the market based on specific conditions. Experiment with each tool and decide how you like to use them. Many people use Perplexity for stock and finance research too — worth exploring even though Oliver hasn’t used it personally yet.
